The History of Mir Castle
The first mention of the castle was recorded in 1395. Mir castle is a whole complex of buildings, which consists of: a fortress (the residence of the owner), an English-style park, an Italian garden, a pond, a chapel-burial vault and a roadside chapel built in 3 different architectural styles – Gothic, Renaissance, Rococo.
Mir Castle survived all the wars since the 17th century and was almost lost during the Soviet Union period. In 1939, fascists deployed ghettos in the castle. Soviet period was not better. At first in the castle was apartments, and after simply forgot about it.
Only in 1988, Mir Castle was awarded the status of a historical and cultural monument and its restoration began. And in 2000 the castle complex in Mir was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Without visiting this castle, your visit to Belarus will be incomplete. A huge number of myths and legends surround this castle.
